While Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen was testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) ripped into her for her answers regarding President Donald Trump’s alleged comments disparaging certain countries.
“I hurt,” he said. “When Dick Durbin called me, I had tears of rage when I heard about his experience in that meeting. And for you not to feel that hurt and that pain and to dismiss some of the questions of my colleagues, saying, ‘I’ve already answered that line of [questioning].’
“Tens of millions of Americans are hurting right now because of what they’re worried about what happened in the White House; that’s unacceptable to me,” he continued.
Booker said they are real threats, such as the death threats he and his fellow senators receive: “Kamala [Harris] receives enough death threats to know the reality. Mazie [Hirono] receives enough death threats to know the reality.”
He added it is unacceptable for Nielsen to not remember if Trump used profane words to describe those countries.
